Fall
Sunday school
classes
2008
Steele Creek Presbyterian
Church offers Sunday School classes for adults and children from 9:45AM to
10:45AM. Classes for the Fall begin on September 7. Come meet new friends and
join in thoughtful discussions as you learn more about the Bible and your own
faith. Find one that suits your style!
NOOMA
We can get anything we
want, from anywhere in the world, whenever we want it. That's how it is and
that's how we want it to be. Still, our lives aren't any different than other
generations before us. Our time is. We want spiritual direction, but it has to
be real for us and available when we need it. We want a new format for getting
Christian perspectives.
NOOMA is the new format.
It is short films with communicators that really speak to us. Compact,
portable, and concise. Each NOOMA touches on issues that we
care about, that we want to talk about, and it comes in a way that fits our
world. It's a format that's there for us when we need it, as we need it, how we
need it.
This discussion group
springboards off of the lessons taught using this format during Vacation Bible
School. Sessions will be led by Valerie Phillips and will meet in Room 223.
Billie Watt Class
Billie Watt began this
class for returning veterans of World War II in the late 1940's and it has been
going strong ever since. The Present Word curriculum used in this class
emphasizes the Bible as God’s revelation and the major source of understanding
the Christian faith. It underscores the Biblical witness as the most effective
means of teaching the gospel. The Present Word lessons give attention to
issues such as personal faith, ethics, human relationships, community
responsibility, resurrection hope and the implications of Christian discipleship
under the Lordship of Christ and in the fellowship of his Spirit. Teachers vary
monthly and the class is held in Room 118, the Billie Watt Room.
Heritage Class
This diverse group enjoys discussing all aspects of the Bible.
Discussion and activities from The Present Word encourage participants to
live out their faith in their individual and congregational activities.
Teachers change monthly and may use The Present Word for inspiration, or
they may choose their own topic! This group meets in the Price H. Gwinn III
Chapel.
Life Search Class
This group takes on a discussion of current
events in relationship to Biblical truths using The Wired Word. This
curriculum delivers a
ready-to-use, weekly lesson right to your e-mail inbox every Thursday.
Each weekly installment includes biblical commentary and discussion questions
related to a topic in the news that week — sometimes even the same day!
Discussions take place in Room 207.
New Fellowship Class
This group selects a contemporary curriculum of interest to everyone.
Class will begin this fall with a video series on prayer called The Prayers
of Jesus. Prayer was the backbone of Jesus’ life and ministry. From his
baptism to crucifixion, the Gospels portray Jesus as a man of prayer who knew
and deeply valued intimate communion with his heavenly Father. What can we
learn from the prayers he prayed? This unique, in-depth look at the prayers of
Jesus will give you new insights into prayer, the character of God, and how to
deepen your relationship with him. This class meets in Room 117.
New Beginnings Class
New to the Church? Want
to know more about the Bible overall? The New Beginnings Class is currently
studying the series "Journey Through the Bible". This
sixteen-volume book-by-book study of the Bible explores pivotal points in the
Scripture, lifting up the Bible's most significant stories, themes, events, and
people. Discussions this Fall will be focusing on the Wisdom Literature
in the Bible: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. This
group meets in Room 220.
